'Porter Creek' is made entirely from recordings of grand piano. On a hot August day in 2010, I agreed to record a few songs for my friend Natascha, who was on temporary residence from Germany. We used a really nice Steinway in the sanctuary of a church I was attending at the time in Bay Village, Ohio. I used my Blue USB mic to record her, which managed to capture some of the reverb of the modern, naturally-lit sanctuary.
Five years later, back at my parents' home, I found the recordings while cleaning their old desktop computer. I only used two of Natascha's three songs, but ended up with several iterations. Mixing the recordings in-between walks at a nearby Lakefront park, the memories of that August day came back to me. Sourced from a time when Forest Management had yet to exist, Porter Creek is a special album for me, in its own simple and pure way.
